Hi, Everyone. This post is all about how to treat pug anxiety disorders.
Pugs are often called "Shadow Dogs". They have a tendency to follow their owners around. They just have to be part of the action.
The problem is that some Pugs come to over rely on their owners for emotional support. These dogs can become susceptible to serious anxiety disorders. This often leads to aggressive behavior.
A Pug will communicate her emotional state through body language. It's mostly a matter of knowing what to look out for. If you notice changes in behavior at an early stage you can remove your dog from a stressful situation.
Anxiety resulting in aggressive behavior is usually triggered by whatever frightens the dog.
Rodger Waite, a pal of ours, recently started experiencing anxiety issues with his Pug Percy. Rodger asked me if I knew how to treat Pug anxiety disorders.
Percy developed this out of the blue. Anytime Percy gets startled by unanticipated noise attacks one of the other dogs. He has started to get into "genuine fights" with Rodger 's other dogs.
Percy hears a siren or the sound of a door banging and starts to pant, pace and tremble. Sadly comforting does not cut the dogs anxiety all that much.
If Lucy tries to pet any of their other dogs Percy gets aggressive.Lucy is afraid of being bitten.
Percy 's emotional hassles worsened. Rodger and Lucy were walking on egg shells. They were afraid to make any sudden sounds.
For the sake of the kids safety, they even considered taking their little dog to the local shelter.
I normally recommend desensitization and a calm and relaxed home environment.
I suggested Rodger visit my veterinarian for some advice. He put Percy on Serotonin enhancing drugs that help to stabilize dogs suffering from anxiety. The medicine is often recommended in cases of social anxiety, storm or noise phobia.
The situation in the Waite household has improved tremendously. Percy no longer attacks other dogs in the household.
I'm not sure how long Percy will need to be on this medication. ( D.A.P. is quite expensive ) Guess it's a small price to pay for a little peace and harmony.
I advised the Waite Family to try to find the trigger for their dog's anxiety.I would like to compliment the Waite family for keeping the little dog.
I have experienced these kinds of problems myself. I have tried Nutri-Calm for Dogs and over the counter alternatives like Pro Quiet and Vet's Best Comfort Calm. These help dogs with stress.
